A couple of "Dog Bites Man" items in this article.
- The possible re-financings of the airport and the stadium complex bonds that *cough* don't involve using any unforseen income windfalls generated by either. (This brings us back to the idea that we should convert half of the E.D. Sales Tax monies over to this debt reduction. If we can't bring any companies in because there is no surplus workforce to hire, we may as well pay down community debt.)
- Approved a motion to proceed with Phase II of the feasibility study for a new or improved convention center and performing arts center.
Notice how the performing arts center has managed to crawl back into the picture, its....er...feasibility having been made more likely by the application of $17,000 towards the study made by a disinterested third party that calls itself the "Performing Arts Center in Midland Feasibility Study Committee".
So forget about all those original statements pooh-poohing the arts center. They have been made non-operative as of this point.

What they COULD be thinking about is reviving the effort to move the AirPark out to it's land on North Big Spring. The AirPark land inside the city limits has only gotten more valuable, (and more dangerous with increased air traffic,) and could be sold to private developers for enough to fund the City's part of building the new facility...could that be considered economic development? The effort was pretty far forward just as the last oil boom busted, and was pulled down for that reason. The land is there, and ready.
