My West Texas?
Sheesh! I know Walsingham's posted on this already, but What's Up with continuous linkage to a Lubbock blog on the front page of MyWestTexas.com?? I don't get it. And, yes, I read the comment from the Lubbock blogger a few days ago. Still doesn't make sense. How about linking active local blogs guys? Like you said. (I do like the redesign of the MRT website. Much better. Nice work!)
I was very glad to discover that Jimmy the P. is still reading Jessica's Well from time to time. Jimmy, maybe the issue that you touch on in your post, linking to J's W, is the reason we're no longer "featured." We can't not rock the boat, if the boat needs rocking...

Nat, does this mean that you are an Editor? And is that higher or lower than a Site Admin?

Take a look at this blog. Do you think we have any sort of Editor?

I don't know if we need more "Editor" here but he could sure use some more "Site Admin" there.

Ditto Walser's second comment.
Interestingly, the Site Admin's post on the New York Post headlines appeared on the MWT.com blog display at 12:05, 10 minutes after my post. My post did not appear, nor did the earlier posts J's W put up on Sunday. The webmeister at MWT appears to be using some discretion in what gets posted, regardless of Slim's argument to the contrary.
BTW, Slim, no one here is trying to not get along (did you used to hang out with Rodney King in L.A.?).

Shep ... No, not one in the same, trust me. Just a glitch. As fine a writer as Tex Slim is, we'll soon deactivate him. His content is obviously not of a local nature. We're working to bring him down, peacefully, now. No offense to Tex, just what we need to do to keep it real.

I was removed from the rotating thread that now is virtually "frozen" since Midland bloggers are not actually blogging. I did get placed on the top of the right column on the blog page with my "ugly" mug and links to each post and the blog. I did get 3 good days of free publicity before you so-called Midland bloggers and your New York content got me off the front page.
I never have liked New York or anything from New York BUT the Hearst Corporation must be anti-West Texas and Pro New York. Funny thing West Texas is in the site URL but it must be a mirage.
Now you can "whine" about me getting top column position on the blog page while you "Do Not Blog" and leave the blog thread frozen.
Your idea of "blogging" is NOT blogging.WEIRD

Well , Clif ,
I guess the reason you got kicked off was you were just too darn good for poor ole Midland .
Since by coming here it DOUBLED your readership and you're being read all over hell and back and things are so damn rosy you condecend to this small blog by teaching us how to submit feedback instead of blog entry .
For your information this Blog is NOT the invention of a SuperEgo such as seems to be yourself . There happens to be several people equally involved . No Editor here . Site Administrator and a bunch of really clever guys , that's all .
I think what killed your resume was your crowing the fact you have no advertisers .
Aren't you special .

What's funny about you "clowns" here is I simply applied to get my blog in the rotation since you "clowns" call blogging 1 entry a day. I am doing 5-10 entries a day and not "clowning" around like you characters and I don't use advertising on my blog and you "clowns" got exposed as "alleged bloggers". I now will go back to blogging the news and you characters can go on being "clowns".

Last I checked the likes of William Safire, Bill Buckley and George Will wrote about 1 piece a day....and that was their PAYING job. Also, some of the best blogs I read average less than one post per day.
I'm sure we could throw 5~10 posts per day on every item that comes across the AP RSS feed with a few choice local search terms, but we tend to be more selective.
Besides, this really isn't a my blog is bloggier than your blog competition, it was an honest observation that most, if not all of your stories had a Lubbock / High Plains slant, event the Midland based stories, and that made us question the "local-ness" of your blog. If you notice, we aren't applying to be on the front page of the Odessa American website, because we are a Midland Blog.
BTW, Jessica's Well at best has had a Tip-Jar, but no advertising and the most vociferous comments have come from our readers, not our writers! Welcome to the Well.

Mr. Burnett:
We do need to clarify something here. We only ordered the Hearst Corporation to take down your blog's feed after being ordered to by our own Masters in Big Oil after they saw that you were for price controls on oil.

How about some controls on "scare quotes"?

I hope that losing the feed slot at MWTDC doesn't cost him that much hoped for promotion to Publisher.

Well, this little post and it's subsequent exchange of thoughts and comments has made my Monday. 22 hours of it, anyway. Thanks, y'all.
Ya know, Clif, if you hadn't posted the story on the wind blowing around 18 wheelers, my blood pressure wouldn't have gone through the roof. I mean, come on man, this is blanking West Texas. The wind blows. Real West Texans deal with it. I learned long ago how to tack into the wind with the Suburban to keep it on the black part. And I have also given up washing my vehicles for the duration of Spring. I believe that most truckers with IQs above the outside air temperature will figure out when to drive it and when to park it. Those that don't get to explain to the boss how come the trailer got all wadded up and then get to find a new job. (Probably as a roughneck on one of the rigs I've contracted...)
I hope the broader audience we have brought you is able to keep you excited about reporting on reporting on the news. And not trying to be it yourself.

I have requested my blog feed be removed from this site immediately. To be associated with the assholes here in Midland is degrading my blog. You creeps should stay in Midland and not ever leave the Permian Basin area. Texas can ill afford your "lack of class" hurting the Lone Star State's image.

Mr. Burnett:
We have not placed your blog feed (RSS, etc.) anywhere on this site and will respect your wishes to not include one in the future.
What we do have on this site is a few links links to your blog contained in the body of a post or comment and those links will remain. Also, we will not guarantee that there won't be more links to your blog located here in the future should something be posted on your blog that, for whatever reason, one of the contributors to this blog wishes to comment on.
Hope this helps.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People in Blogging"
by Clif Burnett

Jeff has assured me that my blog feed on blogs page will be removed in next couple of hours. The "bait&switch" idea of getting blog feeds for a couple of days and then putting blog feed on Blogs page is most unethical thing I've seen a newspaper chain do to get free content. I gladly contributed to give rotating content for West Texas News on the front page but to "insinuate" that I am a Hearst Corporation blogger was "way over the line" and then the other bloggers "whining" about my news content was as "childish" as could get. The "sleaze factor" in this blogging community is not my idea of "good association". I can not prevent anyone from using my links to comment on but for the site to just hijack my blog feed for an alternative use was UNACCEPTABLE. My site was getting very few referrals after I was removed from rotating thread. I am always looking for site traffic increase but never want to be "working for free" for some big newspaper chain while the staff "sits on the rears" and gets paid.
I'm not in the "volunteer work for profitable corporations" business. The site admin here is a "big joke".

By the way I am not interested in making friends with a bunch of "creeps" in Midland. "Creeps" is being kind in this case.

Now don't be so petty Clif, in a few days you think you have everyone in Midland figured out. I reckon this blog has many times the following, viewership, and influence of your "blog". Stick around and learn something.
Bob_says_"Cliff,_Get_over_yourself!"

Mr.Editor,
You call us "clowns" and "creeps" , here at the Well , and I don't remember any of us here getting quite that personal with you .
Now you have accused our newspaper of "stealing" your stuff so they wouldn't have to do the work themselves . You go too far .
Have you ever re-read the crap you submitted here at the Well , Mr.Editor . Your utter/complete Arrogance is astounding and leads me to believe that as defensive as you are , you are a fragile thing .
Let's look at you Mr. Editor (with your staff of ..how many? ). You have a tendency to believe you are the last word in all things and you are both judge and jury in the realm of blogging .
We tend to be pragmatic at the Well so I can only surmise that if you are putting as much time into your blog as you have said you do..AND..receive NO compensation for your efforts ..you are either super rich and retired or some kid playing with his computer in the back of his parents house instead of looking for a paying job .
If you think for a moment that people will rally round you like the flag and support you , you are sadly mistaken..Lose the attitude Mr. Editor and maybe you can get your wish .
I've semi-retired from over forty years in the ad business and must say from your initial presentations here I would not place any client with you as you appear to be a time bomb . I feel the agencys in Lubbock would tend to agree with me.
Please understand Mr. Editor that I am not speaking for the gang here at this "sleazy" (your words) blog nor our friends at the MRT , but from me , personally.
Because you made it that way .

Re: "Jeff has assured me that my blog feed on blogs page will be removed in next couple of hours."
I bet they will get it done as soon as possible so their readers won't have to watch a guy go off of his meds right there on their front page.

Another day of good commenting!
As far as us a***oles in Midland staying here (and I guess not breathing the air in Lubbock), does anyone want to hazard a guess at how much of Lubbock's commerce is driven by Midland dollars?
Here's my shot: there are likely over a thousand Tech students from here, that's like $3 million a month in tuition, fees and living expenses. 90% of the Lexuses in town came from Lubbock, probably $25 million per year in purchases. And all the new Benzes in town are bought from a Lubbock company now.
Those numbers are likely at least matched by Midlanders spending in the Lubbock medical community as well. And I have not even touched on all of the folks in town who think our mall is beneath them and travel to Big Bad Lubbock to do their shopping...
I strongly believe that Midland can do without Lubbock way more than the other way around. But that's just me.
And pointing to our lack of class is beyond laughable. Love ya, Clif. Stay in Lubbock.

I'm really sorry you guys have been unwittingly drawn into our apparent little family feud here. I, for one, don't much understand how someone -- anyone -- can mistake MyWestTexas for Jessica's Well. (That actually may be a fire-able offense from where I'm concerned :) We welcome -- ALL PERMIAN BASIN BLOGGERS whose content is relevant to those folks living in our area -- we only ask that if you hope to receive any upfront pub, just keep it real and clean. We've always enjoyed a fairly good relationship with the local blogging community and plan to keep it that way. What Mr. Burnett fails to understand is that it's nothing personal, or wasn't, it's just demographics. The Lubbock County Register has as much relevance to the people of Midland-Odessa as Sticky Doorknobs would have at the Avalanche-Journal.

While you "oilheads" sit here and HOPE someone reads your uninformative blogs about country music and other "drab" subjects I've decided to get some exposure in Dallas/Ft.Worth market and Houston market.
http://texslim.statesmanblogs.com/
http://www.chron.com/commons/persona.html?plckPersonaPage=PersonaBlog&plckUserId=texslim&newspaperUserId=texslim
The second one is actually a Hearst Newspaper, weird.

Mr. Burnett: Have you thought about just using an RSS feed from other news sources as your entire blog? The reportage would then actually be coherent and there would be much fewer typos.

Good luck with the Chronicle there Clif. Laurence Simon, former PajamasMedia Blogger and Time Magazines "King of the Cat Bloggers" has a few choice words about blogs and the Houston Chronicle.
Ohhh, and take Jimmy the P's advice and look up and figure out you are commenting about what MyWestTexas.com is doing on a Private Local Blog.

"...country music and other 'drab' subjects?" What the hell is he reading? And isn't the Statesman in Austin and not DFW? Are there no maps in Lubbock?
Nat, is it time yet?
And thanks, Jimmy. I am glad you are still reading. Relevant, real and clean. Words to live by. Enjoy N'Yawk.

Thst's funny ! Our old pal Clif clicks onto mywesttexas.com , sees the Well , clicks on it and figures the Well is part and parcel of the MRT. Plus the country music he's yammering about is a connection to Mike and Dana's radio blog ( also not in the pockets of the THIEVES at the MRT, who let valiant Editors of the beaten and downtrodden do ALL their work for them ).
Quite frankly , I must thank Clif for ripping the scales from my eyes and bringing forth this subject. Jimmy the P. and Newsroom Stew need to be deprogrammed ! Yes it's so ! They do nothing all day but sit around like mindless robots while noble bloggers like Tex Slim do all their work for them ! It's up to us to help them find their way BACK into the Honest and Hard-working society we love and adore .
In his last comment he calls Midlanders "Oilheads" like we'd be offended . Like the people of GreenBay Wisconsin get offended by being called Cheeseheads . Sheeesh. He tries to insult us and then boasts he's going after more readers by leeching onto "established " newspaper blogs and then providing the addresses where we may share there-in his poisoned purple prose . Think not Clif ,
The only things I can give our old pal Clif in the way of constructive criticism is this .
1. When your Mom and Dad tell you it's 8:00 and time for bed..GO without an argument .
2. Stay in school and get your High School Diploma. It will serve you better than a GED .
3. Lastly , when you brag of coming in THIRD place for the Republican Chair..Keep it to yourself as you have no idea , after sitting through your rants, just how FUNNY that is on so MANY levels .
Goodbye Clif it's been fun and the pressure is all ours.

Because I've been burying the body of a mortgage broker, I missed some of this fun.
But what a week. Pandora, Old Timer, and now Clif.
The MRT has done us a service. Fresh meat.

This editor SUBMITTED his blog XML to Midland Newspaper for consideration. The request for that info is plainly at the top of the LOCAL BLOGS column. I now even wait 2 hours between entries daily on my blog rather than doing all entries in a short time span to avoid monopolizing the 3 space blog entry area on My West Texas front page. If more than one entry appears that means other bloggers are simply inactive. I appreciate the opportunity at My West Texas since readers on my blog have DOUBLED in last 3 days. I do West Texas news all over the Texas Panhandle and my political entries are now picked up by The Quorum Report(ex.San Angelo Republican entry/mormon connection). If someone dislikes the rotation method My West Texas is using they should use the submit feedback form NOT the blog entry column. There are only 3 entries in that column and it should be used for Blog Entries NOT "complaints" about the format. I have found no other Texas newspaper using a rotating blog entry column and I like the concept at Midland Newspaper. Let's all try to get along. I'm a free-lance blogger with NO ADS on my blog. I also take Letters and Articles for printing consideration at texslim@gmail.com or smoothbluz11@yahoo.com
Thanx,
