Oprah says No to having Sarah Palin on her show

Quote: "I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates."

And on her website announcing the decision she made the mistake of leaving the comments open.

It's horrible. Awful. I want to look away, but I just can't.

UPDATE: I am just thinking out loud here....but with just one phone call...could Rachael Ray become the next Oprah?

UPDATE: Don't underestimate this. It is huge. As maddening as Keith Olbermann is, nobody watches him. Outside of the tin-foil-hat spittle-flinger demographic he has no audience. Oprah does have an audience. An audience of Sarah Palins.

And they, too, just found themselves thrown under the Obamabus. And with Oprah it won't be written down as just politics. This will be seen as a betrayal. And rightly so.

At this point there are 19 pages of comments running about 30 to 1 against her. How long before they all go down the memory hole?

UPDATE: I have screen grabbed the first 300 comments just in case.

UPDATE: Welcome NRO and Instapundit readers! And any HotAir readers still hanging around from two days ago!

Way to go, Oprah!!!! She is the most watched daytime talk show! Tells you that she is pretty smart!

She won't be for long. The arrogance will destroy her, just like it has Letterman. I am not saying she isn't smart, but to think she can keep her viewers with such a disregard for their needs is pretty unwise.

Oprah who?

I've got to hand it to Oprah, though--she's gotten as big as she is by being very good and being very careful. But this time her ego got too big, thinking that her immenseness could pull it off.

What I find interesting in this is that here is an instance of a very popular black who was not insulated by her negritude. That she overreached and suddenly was just as human as everyone else.

I wonder if it could happen to someone else?

In a way I'm a bit sorry though. I know this is a small thing, but I've watched Oprah twice, and each time it was a cooking show. She fed some of each dish to every member of the studio audience. I know, it's not enough to get an Albert Schweitzer award, but still, she's a class act.

Or was, until she let her head get too big.

Talk about a silly fight -- why in the world do we care which person a talk show host chooses to put on her show? To get upset about that just means your world is very, very small, about the same dimensions as your TV set.

Sign the petition to not watch Oprah until she has Palin on the show!!

I linked to your post at my blog, The Business of America is Business

Err... are you sure that Palin expressed interest? Since Ofrah is Obama supporter, this would not be very smart probably.

Good Question, Mitrii:

Even if asked by Ray, why re-enforce the stereotype that the Dems are inexplicably trying to hang on her?

Does anybody , other than me , remember when Oprah came to Midland..something about a kid in a pipe or something .

To answer your question on Rachel Ray- No, because Oprah made her.

News Tip: Looks like Oprah's a new show around "Superwomen"- but won't interview Palin-
wrote about it here:

I don't suppose you'd wish to hear I had sexual relations with Opra Winfrey whilst she was here in the Permian Basin and Steadman watched ?

Well, it aint true , but I do sorta miss Mr Asso.

Cause I'll bet he DID !

Oprah's choice isn't too surprising. In addition to campaigning for Obama, she's had Michael Moore on her show, as she told people to pay attention to his movie because it was SO important.

why should she invite her? Palin is an out and out whore and the Republican is party of dumb and stupid just like Bush.

Thank you Oprah! It's your show. You made a decision. If you we're a journalist on 60 minutes, I'd say that you should invite each of the candidates. But you, David Letterman, Leno are not that kind of journalist. Ergo, WHY?????????? I'm not interested in seeing GWBush in lipstick. I think that's a more accurate description.

Fact is, Palin is above Oprah. Oprah does best with light weights. Oprah is just another Extra, Entertainment Tonight, People or US magazine, but more focused and refined, sophisticated even, with a little fogged lens filter to hide the blemishes in its host and its guest. Guest of Oprah want two things, to enlighten the world with their perceived gift, and to be loved be that world. In the end, Oprah is all about making everyone feel good. I think Palin has a story that is definitely interesting to Oprah's overwhelmingly female middle class, stay-at-home-mom audience, but I don't think Palin needs any of the feel good love offered by the show, and I think she would rather act on her political worldview rather than try to sell it. I'm certain Oprah, having already been ravished by Obama, would ever ask her on the show, but if she did, I doubt Palin would be interested.

Everyone does not have to be on the Palin's bandwagon. It is the Oprah Show and it is her own network so if they pull the plug she is still one of the richest ladies in the USA. Do you think she care

Bravo to Oprah for not having Palin on her show! It's her show, and she has the right to choose who is on it! I personally think Sarah is a flash in the pan. She has made quite a few dumb comments so far, and it will soon come out that she's not qualified for the job of VP. Think of her compared to Obama! She'll never be of his calibre.

Good move Oprah! I feel it would be insulting to me as a women to have Palin on your show. The women of America need to wake up and smell the coffee. Why do you think McCain chose her? Think about it. It isn't about her ability to be VP.

Oprah and Palin should be able to like or dislike whoever they want... too bad that's pretty much impossible if they want to maintain their approval ratings
