The Obama secret police
Melanie Phillips, whose blog I merely ought to refer to without explanation, has another exemplary article here.
As James Taranto writes on the WSJ blog, the Obamasphere is descending from hysteria to depravity by using Palin's decision actually to give birth to her son Trig as apparent proof of her unfitness for office. When they look at Trig, they don't see a small and vulnerable human being; they don't see the power of love triumphing over adversity; all they see is a handicapped thing that should never have been allowed to live.
But she goes on to make other points: that the totalitarian left is terrified of an argument with anyone, and that is crucial, because it might be forced to learn that it was wrong after all these years. This supports my contention that they are people who take sides without caring what the side is really for--tastes, not values. I have maintained that the left, with its ignoring of history, its handwaving instead of arguing, its vicious attacks which are nothing but smears or ad hominem, is terrified of learning that they might be wrong and therefore their side might be wrong. It would be a crisis of faith.
Palin has been a tonic for the Republic Party and for the Republic, too--witness the grotesque overreaction by the MSM and the left to her, as though she were a vampire come to steal their children--the children who had not been aborted that is. We are treated to the spectacle of Obama running against Palin, not McCain, and to him seeming flustered at her, not knowing what to do. I still recall (barely) how JFK folded before Khrushchev when the Commie banged his shoe on the table. Ahmadinejad has mused, openly, that to nuke Israel to get rid of the Jews once and for all would be worth five million Iranian casualties. Imagine the Chosen One dealing with that murderous nut-case, if he's flustered by a hockey mom and he hasn't had time for his focus groups and the TelePromTer breaks down.
And so there you have it. A nihilistic branch of America, in the cultural ascendancy, engaging in character assassination, sneering that it's only moral for afflicted children to be killed and not born, pinning its hopes on a man with little experience in government, shady, at best, acquaintances, a revolting choice of formative books (Alinsky), and who is really, at the bottom, incapable of making moral choices (see his friends), and who really, at bottom, is nothing more than his immense self-regard, used to sell himself as a luxury brand to people who look at the label before the stitching.

Two lady writers, Carol Fowler and Cintra Wilson, have now become "the Obamasphere?" With half the population (or more) of the United States now leaning Democratic, isn't that a pretty glorious title to give two lone women?

"totalitarian left" Now that is unique. It was Bush & Company that gave new meaning to the word totalitarian.
Remember just who started looking at the books that you check out of the public library.
That is totalitarian.

I was relying on memory of Kennedy's reaction to the banging of the shoe; I'm quite sure that I recall it, although the Wikipedia article that you quote doesn't put the two of them together in the same room at the same time. I suggested, by not saying otherwise, that the shoe banging was done directly at Kennedy, which was not so.

That's merely silly, and not even up being tendentious.
"Totalitarian left." You might check the definition of totalitarian. Totalitarianism means rules that infringe on every part of every person's life--ever see The Lives of Others? it's about the STASI in East Germany and its intrusion into every facet of everyone's life. Bush et al have intruded more than I like into the lives of others--and I do not defend that, for I do uncritically support one side over the other--but seeing the reading material of people suspected of terrorism is no bad thing. Would you not want Bush et al to see who was buying kiddie porn or snuff films? Do you believe in background checks for licenses for people in positions of public trust?
9/11 could have been avoided, in my understanding, had the Church Committee's rules permitted the CIA to investigate the confiscated hard drive of one of the terrorists.

Why didn't they just snatch said hard drive off the streets of another sovereign nation and fly it away to a third nation for investigation?? I would NOT recommend water boarding the drive, however.

The Kennedy comment you made is all wrong.
Nikita Khrushchev banged his shoe on the podium at the UN because he was infuriated at a comment made by Lorenzo Sumalong, the leader of the Phillipine delegation, who questioned Krushchev's stance on Western imperialism, in light of the fact that Russia had annexed all of Eastern Europe themselves. He called Sumalong all kinds of names as well.
This occurred some months after Eisenhower refused to apologize to Russia for the U2 spy plane incident.
Later on, JFK's handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis actually led to Khrushchev's downfall, as Khrushchev's own Central Committee deposed him in 1964, citing his poor handling of the Missile Crisis as an embarrassment to the Soviet Union.
