Arbitrary?

The MRT has published the latest reports from the Texas Ethics Commission on the Craddick vs. Dingus race.

The dollar amounts raised and spent by each candidate are breathtaking for a local race.

Curious though are some of the contribution amounts to each candidate:

$3,694.19 - $15,674.80 - $5,299.67

While a vast majority of the donation amounts are in nice round numbers, these donations are for seemingly arbitrary sums. Odd.

Some of the amounts seem odd, but if you read the actual reports online, they make more sense.

For instance the $15,674.80 were radio ads by Clayton Williams that had to be reported by the campaign.

Another $5,299.67 contribution from Anne S. and C. W. Duncan, Jr. (received on 10/20 and eerily close in amount to a bill for $6,000 from Frederick Polls dated 10/15)

A loan of $79,903 from father-in-law and wife Anne S. and C.W. Duncan, Jr. dated 10/17 (exact amount of bill from Thompson Group in Little Rock, Arkansas dated 10/17)

Another loan from Anne and C.W. Duncan on 10/24 for $17,964.03 (exact amount of bill from Thompson Group dated 10/24)

What was more interesting was the fact that Dingus, who said he wouldn't take special interest money, has now accepted money from the AFL-CIO pac.

Dingus’ campaign consultant Jeff Crosby, while agreeing the organization has a special interest, said the AFL-CIO is not a lobbyist group and Dingus has kept his campaign promise.

The AFL-CIO is the mother of all special interest groups.

I had figured they were donations for specific bills.

I understand the Craddick campaign's reporting of the expense of the Clayton Williams endorsement ads (though Claytie did them himself and says so in his ads) from a political standpoint, though I think any private citizen should be able to do whatever they please in their own name, own voice and with their own money, without limits or political reporting by a candidate.

Though, where specific donations were solicited for bills for media groups and pollsters, why not cut a check rounded to the next hundred or thousand?

For those interested :

It is my understanding Mr Williams bought his endorsements OUTSIDE political rates.

He paid for his time at standard rates , rather than the dirt cheap political rates in order to state he is for Tom Craddick and as a citizen IS entitled to buy air-time to make his views known .

If Mr. Williams wishes to buy air-time to endorse political candidates or watch fobs , that is his RIGHT as protected by free speech (even if he had to pay to say it..and the newspapers would have charged MORE..so don't go there.)

I'm not sure why he disclosed his PERSONAL purchase of a commercial run to the folks at Craddick's unless he felt it necessary to make darn sure the competition would not try to cloud the issue with bogus wrong-doing .

In this country you can still run ads stating why YOU want to see someone in office on your own nickle ..so far anyway .

The AFL-CIO? Really? A week before an election in a Republican town and running as a quasi (or actual) Democrat? Are you kidding me? I think that deserves a new term. I think you can safely say that he just pulled a "Dingus".

pics! Wonder what the sgcfiniiance was of the money on the table? Those dress blues are one snappy looking uniform. Even my skinny as a stick dad looked dapper in his!
