Mark Steyn: Is a Big Media bailout next?

From Mark Steyn:

The reason the press are going to such shameless lengths to drag Obama across the finish line is because he's their last best hope at restoring the old media environment, including a new Unfairness Doctrine for radio, and regulation of the Internet. The Obama's-already-won-give-it-up-you-GOP-losers stories are intended only to demoralize turnout.

From our own Walsingham (earlier that day):

With 12 days left the major media is in a race to see if they can drag Obama over the finish line before they run out of audience. At that point they will just have to hope that The One and The Dems in congress will return the favor by legislating some of their audience back to them with a resurrection of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

Walsingham to begin getting the Big Head in three....two....one.....

I think a run at a new "Fairness Doctrine" is a given. And should one be imposed upon Talk Radio the AM band may collapse, in which case Rush Limbaugh may just go on to save satellite radio just as he saved AM radio.

But to accomplish what those pushing the "Fairness Doctrine" really want to accomplish...disabling the ability of new media to detect "damage" (read Elite Media gatekeeping here) in the flow of information and re-route around it...they will have to find some way to apply this "fairness" to the internet also.

So look for an attempt to regulate political speech on blogs also.

I'm sure any number of the thousands of Obama internet savvy slackers will gladly show them how to shut down websites without even having to pass a bill. On the legal side of things, expect "report abuse" buttons to become mandatory... except the government would be the one receiving the reports. Hell, if China can censor the internet availability to it's citizens, so can a North American Communist government. I seem to recall Obamassiah complimenting the Chinese on how they do things.

Google was, in 2006 at least, not reporting results on some right-wing sites, one of which I have fun on.

Also they rolled over for China. I really really wish I thought it was just greed.

Nat,

Trust me here . Rush Limbaugh was NOT the savior of AM radio . AM radio was in trouble way before Rush came along . The savior of AM radio is the one and ONLY savior of AM radio ..the self proclaimed "Savior Of AM Radio..the Master himself..Love him or Hate Him ..Mr Porno ..the ONE and ONLY Howard Stern .

Now I'll tell ya why .

Stern wasn't ,at the beginning, into politics .

He was into SEX .

Politics is not Universal . SEX is .

By stretching the boundaries of "SEX" broadcasting and exploring just how far one could go , without facing an auto de fey ,he inspired Political talk show hosts into "pushing the envelope" and calling a knave a knave .

Limbaugh is good . but I really doubt he would be where he is now without Stern making the way on the, then , unlistenable AM frequency.

One man's Opinion
