What if? "Operation Gentle Nudge"
Last week we saw reports of the decline in viewership of the major news networks. This in a year featuring a profoundly historic election by anyone's account.
Today from Editor & Publisher Magazine:
For those holding out for some improvement in print circulation, this morning brings disappointment. The Audit Bureau of Circulations released the latest figures for the six- month period ending September 2008 and the report shows major drops in circulation at the big metros.According to ABC for the 507 newspapers reporting in this period, daily circulation slipped 4.6% to 38,165,848 copies. For the 571 papers, Sunday dropped 4.8% to 43,631,646 copies.
Newsrooms are cutting staff. NBC itself is slashing almost $500 million in expenses to remain profitable.
Obviously, many, many major media outlets are either over the edge or just on it.
And instead of doing any real and even-handed reporting, we know that these news outlets are In The Tank for the Dems in general and Obama in particular. And while this may work for the Dems and Obama this time around these news outlets are extremely vulnerable now.
I know that many conservatives (or even just fans of real reporting) are fed up and say that they don't "get their news" from their paper. I know I don't rely on the local for the news. But I still do for, say, the Obits and local sports. Even the classifieds. So while I don't at all rely on the paper for news I still subscribe for the print version.
So what would happen if everyone in the same situation decided that we would just rely on these news outlets' online versions for the local things that we need for a while?
Cancel the print subscription. Read the web version to get the local news, local sports, local classifieds, etc.
They are on the edge.
Let's give them a gentle nudge.

As I've said, oh, eleven times: suppression of dissent is one sign of fascism. It is the first sign, by the way. Control of information.
These people can't win an argument on the merits--notice how the moonbats never answer, merely holler and scream and dodge. And now with the suppression of dissent.
There is a word for what people have to do: Samizdat.

Damn it Theo ! You can't say it enough !!!!
Say it AGAIN !

The survival of the print press hinges upon B.H.O becoming P.O.A. as broadcasting is regulated by the government !
The "Fairness Doctrine" will hobble the broadcast industry until "Talk and News" programs are once again aired at 4:00 am Sundays for the only purpose of meeting mandated "public affairs" commitments . (If you were to listen to the crap that was run as public affairs back in the '60's you'd learn about ticks carrying Lyme disease and how to light a fire when stranded in the woods.)
This "Fairness Doctrine" is simply a return to the "Bad Old Days of Broadcasting ! How it works is this : If you interview a candidate for office you MUST give equal time to the others , unless they decline( But you'll need to do the paperwork showing how you attempted to contact each person running for that office and it MUST be filed for FCC inspection..and GOD help you if you screw this up !). Needless to say , this is way beyond the resources of smaller radio and TV stations (and some of the larger) so you may expect them to do nothing at all .
This "Doctrine" also includes nasty fines for non-adherence ..what can and cannot be said about a person running for office..oh the list goes on and on and if you fail in any of these standards you could lose your license..so why do anything at all !?!
TV and radio will stick to entertainment only, as to run programs about serious issues could cause the loss of their station
Newspapers are NOT government regulated therefore they may print what they wish and will ,by default, once again become the official mouthpiece for anything political ... and people will BELIEVE as there will be nobody to deny !
Who was behind these regulations of radio and TV in the early days??? Newspapers . Look it up .
Has anyone done a study as to what individuals or groups are behind Government Regulation of the Internet ?
Yep , JW could be next if the "Fairness Doctrine" includes the Internet . China's Internet is tightly controlled ..so it could work here , if there were a few tragic "examples" .
Obama favors the "Fairness Doctrine" and thus a return to the Glory Days of print media ! What's for the newspapers not to love ?
