Seems the good (but dim) governor projected all his budgets for the state schools for this year on $5.00 a gallon gas .

I'm sure you have heard ,Shepherd..but others might have not..Gas is cheaper than five bucks .

The money that was to be rolling in is..well , simply put, not going to be there. Now the state colleges are going to have to tighten their belts.

Now that Bastion of Liberalism , the state paid colleges are going to have to survive DEEP cuts and ,surprisingly are truly ,movingly and heart-feltedly pissed !

No amount of Bondo will restore the shine of this '76 Chevy (to use the vernacular of New Mexicans)

The education system of NM has been well and truly screwed.......OH !

The Albuquerque news paper has stopped home deliveries because of the economy.It will be sold in stores and racks only !

Yep, the NM state budget is probably more tied to the health of the oil and gas industry than any other state (Louisiana and Wyoming could be close, I guess...). Over half of the state budget for education and around 40% of the total state budget rides on taxation of oil and gas. You are correct that they are well and truly screwed. Athletics Bill will try to raise taxes on an industry that is already pulling back (and out) due to his heavy handed environmental tactics.
