Indeed. I'm over 50 and qualify for the evil AARP. A friend used to clerk for Jim Buckley in the Washington DC appellate court, and he'd lunch with another judge who has made it to the supremes. Once they were coming from lunch and that judge spied the headquarters of the AARP and said, "There's the focus of evil in the modern world."
They send me self-righteous mewlings all the time, and I return bits of paper, with scrawling like "Socialist thieves" (redundant) on them in the prepaid envelope, making sure not to enclose anything that could identify me so they will do it again.
These are the people who complain that they're not getting enough when they're the richest demographic in America, and if their healthy grandchildren are paying as their biggest taxes monies that they'll never see again, that's fine. The return on Social Security is appalling and they've already collected it.
I sincerely hope that when I'm old enough to qualify that I won't need to take it. Even though I've been paying. And paying. And paying.
Hmmmmm. I sense the picadores are at the ready with their lances to rile up this old bull .
Ok , I'll rise to the bait .
As a charter member of the "Boomer" society ,having paid Social Security since I was 12,I am to receive my very first payment THIS MONTH ! I look forward to that check as it'll come in mighty handy.
Some things you might not know about your SSI is that even older goats than myself raided it years ago for THEIR special interests !NOT us BOOMERS !
Social Security money has been used for God knows how many things ! Making things worse...SSI is a Ponzi scheme .
Congress will soon decide that raising the age of retirement will be necessary. I'm guessing around 70 but I have heard 75 mentioned . If you aren't grandfathered in you'll have to wait for your first check .
That's why I signed up for early retirement.
If that makes me a selfish old man who has squandered your inheritance, screw you . I'll send you a nice postcard from the Bahamas .
Just to show the contempt for those who would accuse MY generation of pilfering SSI ..as I go about my business in the tall city I shall intentionally leave my turn signal on .
