Obama Fascism
I know, I know.....the word Fascist gets thrown out in political discussions more than it should but I do mean it.
Don't freak out, Obamatons, I didn't say Hitlerism. I said Fascism. In the sense of pre-World War II 1930's Italian Fascism that was all the rage among the intellegentsia throughout the world.
Explain to me why this whole Government/Uniom takeover/ownership of both GM and Chrysler doesn't amount to that type of government/industrial system.
When you voted for Hope and Change, did you ever think that your candidate would nationalize two of the big three auto makers? Is there any indication that major banks won't be next?
And how would you like to be Ford right now? Not taking Obamabucks handouts from the Feds, struggling to make it as a private enterprise, but now you have to negotiate a labor contract with the UAW. The same UAW who know owns a huge stake in BOTH of your domestic competitors. A conflict of interest for the UAW? Fear not, President Obama will smooth it over with his velvety baritone and a teleprompter set to scroll at just the right speed.
I have purchased my last GM vehicle. When the time comes for a new purchase I will look first to Ford, then to Toyota.
At this point, with both the government and the unions sweeping in to take over GM and Chrysler I want their "experiment" to fail. Fail hard. Fail big. Fail massively.
They will not get another cent from me because they forgot one little detail: They didn't pass a law that requires me to buy GM or Chrysler.
Yet, anyway.

Thank you for calling a spade a spade, which so many Conservative politicians are afraid of doing. In their heart of hearts, people just want to be free. See:
http://libertydiscourses.blogspot.com/

Are you guys serious? The auto's and the banks asked for the governments money. Obama could have easily nationalized the banks ,but has avoided this.

The goverment was asked for help as a lender of last resort. That is why this is not fascisim. Should we just continue giving money to a failed business model, or demand change in return?
What is your solution? If you have one, please comment on why it wasn't exectuted in the past.

Your commentary is hilariously ignorant. Please go read a few books on political theory AND history and then continue. There is room for enlightened discussion on modern fascism but simply throwing wild accusations around without any fact to back them up is stupid. You obviously have no understanding of what fascism was and is. Sorry.

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to
tremble for the safety of my country; corporations have been enthroned, an era of
corruption in High Places will follow, and the Money Power of the Country will
endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the People, until
the wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed."
Abraham Lincoln
I think this quotation from Lincoln is highly accurate in describing the real threat to any form of freedom or liberty.
Corporatism and fascism are the same things. Indeed corporatists in Europe developed the theory for, encouraged, financed and conspired with Hitler. They bought him the weapons and technology he needed to carry out offensive war, opress and dominate Europe and commit genocide against Jews and slavs.
Much literature exists about this subject, indeed its Mussolinis description of fascism so ought to be fairly accurate. Not knowing this is dangerous, and one can only wonder why the media is not making the connection clearer for people on both sides of the atlantic.
Merger of government and corporations has killed the US, is killing Europe. I
In addition to this corporations are traditionally the engine for imperialism. The British East India Company is an excellent example of this, others can easily be found today.

Kevin:
If you have in fact read these books and know this history then use your hard earned knowledge to rebut.
For every history book that you agree with and throw at me I can find one that rebuts it.
Your whole comment distilled is this: Anyone who doesn't read and agree with the books that I have read and agree with hasn't read any books and that the reading of any book on the subject that disagrees with the books I agree with is not to be counted as books having been read on the subject.
Distilled further: You don't agree with me and you know that there are books out there that don't either....but you haven't actually read them which makes typing out a rebuttal in your own words problematic...so instead you issue a critique for me not having read the same books that you didn't read.
Kind of like Barack Obama criticizing Americans for knowing only one language when...you know...He Himself only knows one language.

We should simply realize that this is (was) a capitalist country and the weak/mismanaged companies should be allowed to fail as any of the rest of us would be if we were to act in a manner deemed fiscally irresponsible. Fascism...

So glad we've have finally decided to have an open discussion about modern American fascism.
As such, any honest discussion of modern American fascism must include:
1)Guatanamo Bay, torture, and extraordinary rendition.
2)Suspension of Habeas Corpus via the Patriot Act.
3)Wars of choice justified by a claim of conservative-Christian moral supremacy.
4)Purging of dissent within the government.
5)Creation of categories of people deemed “undeserving” of equal or human rights, most recently immigrants and homosexuals.
6)No-fly-lists with names of political dissenters and other innocent people.
7)"Dixie Chic" burning rallies.
8)Warrantless domestic spying and eaves dropping.
9)Claims of “executive privilege” that still spit in the face of our Constitution.
10)The flagrant propagandizing of the American public and the manipulation of 9/11 to pursue wars of choice.
11)The calls by national conservative media outlets to round up and/or expell dissenters for being "un-American."
12)The mass arrest and brutality toward dissenters, protestors, and journalists at Republican political rallies.
13)The flagrant rebuff of treaty obligations under the UN and Geneva Conventions.
14)The xenophobic demonization of Muslims and people of Middle Eastern Dissent.
15)Smear campaigns by national conservative media figures and outlets with patently false allegations against dissenting academics that inspire vile retribution and threats or acts of violence and death, at times even against their families.
And finally,
16) The inability of this nation to honestly confront what happened and what nearly happened during the Bush years or to pursue any level of justice.
In the spirit of academic and intellectual honesty, President Obama has yet to return that which was stolen from us by his predecessor. With every day that he fails to reverse such policies, he becomes increasingly implicated in their normalization.
I do agree with one point made here. Muscolini himself said that fascism was the wrong word for his system and that a better term would have been corportism. We need to understand that we have created an American Aristocracy out of the corporate class that has more rights, power and freedom than the rest of us and maintains that position at our expense.
I would also encourage everyone, if they have not yet done so, to read an essay by Henry Wallace, Vice President 1944 called "The Danger of American Fascism."
http://newdeal.feri.org/wallace/haw23.htm

As long as we, collectively, cannot get beyond the hurling of superlatives and the mongering of fear as our primary mode of discourse on important matters of self and state, there will be no meaningful progress. I encourage everyone to stop participating in, and encouraging, this mode of thinking and communicating. I conversely encourage everyone to engage in fact finding, skeptical examination of issues and points of view, and most importantly, compromise and understanding. I am a liberal in the true sense of the word. I hope you too will become a liberal.

If it isn't fascism how can Obama et al suspend my constitutional RIGHT to make contract by instituting any form of nationalized health-care. You see as a “Free” person (slaves don’t have freedom of speech, rights to property, guns, or to make contract) I have an inherent right to make contract with whichever insurance company is willing to take my money and provide the health-care when and where and how I deem fit. Denying me that right and anyone else is a part of destroying the Bill of Rights. You have no RIGHT to turn us into slaves to pay for YOUR health-care!
If it’s not fascism how can they ration or deny health-care to me and my wife while providing our health-care dollars to illegal aliens who don’t pay income tax or worse don’t pay social security taxes. It’s all just Communist fascism!
If it’s not fascism why have Obama’s lackeys Jay Rockefeller (D) and Olympia Snowe (R) introduced legislation allowing Mein Führer Obama to shut down the private sector of the Internet under the guise of Cyber-security.

Fitz might be happier in Venezuela.I'll buy the ticket.

The banks are squarely in the sights of His O'liness. As I understand it, some banks want to give back the stimulus money but aren't being allowed to. As you point out, one of the earmarks of fascism is private ownership of business but utter government control.
Bonnie Fwank of course wants to set salaries. Perhaps he asked his old partner who ran a call-boy ring out of their Georgetown flat what method he used.
This destruction of shareholder wealth was deliberate, and a billet doux to the unions, who are as grasping and thuggish as ever before and who will get even worse. Because "too big to fail" will have added resonance as the taxpayer finances unprofitable companies.
Look what happened to the entire British car industry.
And as for making you buy a GM or Chrysler, the money pumped into them will act as an incentive, letting them build cars uneconomically.
Oh, and fascism signifier too: suppression of dissent. Net Neutrality and the Fairness Doctrine.
