The $2,000,000 parking garage: What happens if the City Council says No?

I am not saying that they will, but what if they did? Does the development cease? Does it continue as a totally private venture as was orginally planned?

Given the series of events this looks more like a bailout than an incentive package.

Nonetheless, if the city council decides against subsidizing Basic's parking garage, what happens then?

Cut one floor out, and keep building?

I am sure no matter what, life will go on and Basic find another option for its employees for parking. It's not that big of a deal for a thriving company, they will continue to exist regardless and adapt to exisitng conditions. The downtown planning will move on to the next project, because that is what they will do as long as it is in existence. These conclusions are reading too much into this proposal and the impact of its conclusion on future endeavors by all parties involved. More reaching...

It is not really reaching when this is exactly my point.

I'm not certain why Basic is working with the downtown development people, but I'm more confused as to why the City would hawk the garage as part of the downtown development.

For me, personally, I can see it as part of downtown, but I don't see too many Midlanders walking more than a block around downtown, and that garage would be two-to-three city blocks (and across Big Spring) from most of the other projects that are being deemed "vital" to revitalizing the downtown area --- Who would use the garagae for the convention center or proposed clubs on Main? Would prospective residents is proposed condo-lofts be willing to contract parking spaces that far away?

Something doesn't add up.
