A Question
If the government can force you into its health care plan by outlawing your ability to contract with a private insurer as they are now attempting to do in the proposed "health care" bill, then why can't they do the same thing with education?
If they can outlaw private health coverage then why couldn't they outlaw private schools in the name of the same lofty goals?
It's the perfect storm for the so-called "progressive" mind. Control over everyone's education and a huge sop to the teacher's union all in one package.
Given what we know of the progressive bent towards tyranny and control the question is more, "Why wouldn't they if they got the chance?"

The government is not going to outlaw anyone's health insurance plan. If you have a health care plan that works for you then stay with it. If it is under your employer and they want to keep you, wonderful. If you can find cheaper coverage, through the government option, why wouldn't you do that as long as the coverage is relatively the same.

Don have you read the commentary on the bill that came out of the House Committee? You can keep your current plan so long as you "KEEP YOUR CURRENT PLAN."
If you change jobs, if you lose your job, if your employer dumps you to the government plan, etc. you will NEVER be able to regain your private insurance.
Now, this could change in future revisions of the bill, but the plain reading of the proposed law snatches you into the arms of "Obamacare" as soon as you lose your current coverage.
Remember nobody's really read the bill, all we get from the media, Obama and the (D)emocrats is rhetoric of what they want us to think is in the bill.

You know Ospurt , I'm starting to get a bit worried here. No one has brought this up but what will happen to Part B on Medicare .
This is the option to purchase additional coverage OVER what the Government pays for. ( for those who might not know)
DOES IT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THAT ?
A bunch of gray-beards and blue-haired ladies marching on Washington would not be pretty .

Otto, I will be walking right next to you!

Read page 16 of the health care bill, after its passed into law, its illegal to buy or sell private insurance.
Next will be goverment control of car insurance, so you can only buy approved cars.
Also the head of the EPA, Linda Jackson announced increased enforcement of the clean water act. Stated that some regions had an economic advantage over others so they would use enforcement actions to level the playing field.
So, west texas, get ready for the shaft of Obama.
I hope we have the courage to seceed from the USA.

Don:
Page 16. For all to see.

A recent article in National Review profiled the economic success of Texas. I was struck by the fact, which I hadn't known, that our constitution prohibits the state from doing anything which it was not permitted explicitly to do. This explains everything.
Also there was the quip that Texas would be the first state to secede from the union, and California the last. Well, let them wallow in their own ordure.
Let's go.

We are in a bubble of relative freedom now. There would be no 401(k)s, as I understand it, if there hadn't been an unintended loophole in a bill. Also what private schools there are exist in the teeth of the bureaucrats. My school tax bill is more than the others combined and the waste...the waste...
Even Sweden has private schools which do not provide for double tuition, and one school of thought is that the school must be for profit for only that ensures that there are enough of them. Imagine that. Sweden.
Progressivism is a disease. For years the government tried to say that you couldn't put a plastic jacket on your telephone book because they regulated telephony. And those hush hoods that people could speak into? Illegal. Worse than the nanny state. The commissar state.
There is a character deformation that many people have, and it's the bossy gene. These people become progressives, and they wrap themselves in self-righteousness and preen about their "concern," whoring for the camera. I tend to be pro-life but if we could develop an amniotic test for the bossy gene, I'd make an exception and permit, hell require, the abortion of a fetus with that gene.
It would in the end save many, many lives.
