Celeb photographer Annie Leibovitz is broke
The famous, high-dollar portrait photographer to the stars made millions, but borrowed and spent millions and millions. But she is....wait for it....a Victim.
New York's chattering classes are aghast at the renowned photographer's downfall, making her the latest spectacular victim of the bad debt crisis and nationwide recession.
Annie Leibovitz has made and, more importantly, still has the ability to earn an income that 99% of America can only dream about. The fact that she is too dim to hold onto it does not make her a victim.
Be sure and read the comments regarding the article. There is a very refreshing lack of sympathy.

For many years I believed that Annie Liebowitz ,indeed , was Keith Richards .
Plays guitar and the camera too ! I was impressed .
My fantasy was coldly shattered by the film of the both of them together !
After examining the film closely I think one and all can deduce that Keith Richards is the pretty one.
Case closed .

You're utterly right--it's not anyone's problem but her own and I wouldn't cross the street to save her.
But have you seen her photos?
Don't get medieval on me. She asked for it, and she's getting it, but there is a tragedy here. I bought a book of her photos and even though I'm not all that visually oriented, I could stare at them for hours. Mozart was a fool in finance too.
And no, no, she's not Mozart. But still, an immense talent.

She is an immense talent....but there is no tragedy here. Tragedy would be Leibovitz losing her eyesight or something along those lines.
She is only losing things like her 'other' house in Paris.
And with her connections, how many of the well-heeled who have magnificent houses all over the world would let her stay in them for a time just so that they could say she did?
There is financial ruin and then there is financial ruin.
Somehow I don't think we will be passing Annie Leibovitz in the aisle at CostCo.

Walsingham, that sound you heard to the west was not my crying.
It's possible that some of the rich would let her stay but then, if she's difficult and whining and demanding, she might be like some of those impoverished Victorians who had no choice but to go from grand country house to grand country house, each time the invitation getting a little less sincere.
And yes, she brought it on herself.

Yes Theo , she does know how to take a picture , but she will never be another Robert Mapplethorpe !
She's alive you know ! At worst she can become a talkshow host or a gypsy or something .
Poor Robert can only aspire to be worm food .
The government should pay lots more to deserving artists !
So there !

The "refreshing lack of sympathy," to me, is just the nattering of a group of massive jerks. And what's up with the "lox" crack?

First, some numbers: Annie L's net worth is $80 million. $40 million of that is in her FOUR houses.
She's perfectly capable of paying off her $24 million debt and still being worth $56 million. That's being broke? I should be so lucky...

Oh, boohoohoo, poor Annie Liebowitz. No more lox and canapes for her. I guess she won't be making as many flyovers of my state now. I enjoy the schadenfreude of watching big name libcebs going down in a ball of flame - maybe, just maybe, they might gain an inkling of what the rest of us endure on a daily basis.
