A question regarding "competition" on Planet Obama
The President continues to tell us, louder with each speech, that "nothing in his health care plan would require you to change or give up your insurance. If you like your plan, then keep it."
I have a simple question: Let us say that President Obama's health care reforms have become law and that I have a health insurance plan with Company A. I see a competing plan from Company B that suits my needs better. Can I change from Company A to Company B? Or am I forced into the government plan should I leave Company A for any reason?

Let us re-illustrate this then....with computers:
You have a Wintel PC. Nothing in the ObamaComp plan requires you to give up your Windows PC and buy your next computer from the Government. If you like it you can keep it.
But then you see your first Mac and fall in love with it. You want it.
Too bad.
When you leave the Windows PC behind, you can only by the Government computer.
And our President calls that "increased competition".

I like how he has used FedEx and UPS as examples of how private business can compete with the government programs. Do you really think that anyone would try to send a regular letter from Miami to Fairbanks, Alaska via UPS? No, because they can't compete when it comes to trying to send a regular letter that far for $.44.
Truth is, even the post office can't get it there for that little. This is why they are bleeding money at an incredible rate and raising stamp prices at the same rate.

I read a Nero Wolfe novel written in 1954. Archie was in Los Angeles and put an air-mail stamp on a letter and knew it would be in New York the next morning. The Victorians went from eight to six mail deliveries a day, and they would invite each other over for supper, using the mail, and receive a reply the same day. All without automobiles.
If our Post Office had been doing its job there would be no FedEx or UPS. The market finds an opening when the government fails, and our government wants to close the loopholes to do away with competition.
Sweden is leading the world in reforming education, because this socialist country knows that it has to be private. They in fact are on the verge of insisting that the private schools be for profit because they know there will be enough.
When Sweden can teach us something, we've fallen a long way.

Health care or not, I’m partisan to a president that can lower my taxes and fix what the housing market “greed” created… Just get the job market back up and avoid more scams…

Maybe I'm not following you, Aaron. Which taxes have been lowered? What has he "fixed"? Is the job market better?
Maybe I'm missing something.

Aaron wants Bush 43 back.
Me too.

Explain housing market "greed" please.

So this is where all the Obama hater's went to when Yahoo stopped taking comments ...
Of course, you are wrong again. If you want to know what happens when (if) you change from plan A to Plan B It's posted all over the internet/www.
I could post the truth word for word but it's time you nitwits actually did some homework.
I used it on some of your fellow obama haters and they haven't made a peep in weeks -they lost some money-. Do the GOP a favor, we need help, use the truth when you argue against the Dems, have your ducks in a row and fight the good fight. Same for the off budget comment.

Saigi12 - I am not an "Obama hater" as you suggest, I simply want the facts and the truth giscussed so that we can have true health care reform and ot simply a whole new government program.
And quite frankly, if I hear Obama say one more time that his plan will will "allow you to keep the insurance you have now..." I think I will scream and jump out the window!
To explain; most people that have insurance have it from their employer. Employers are NOT required to offer any health insurance to employees but do so for various reasons. Being a businessman that offers this to our employees, we shop around and look for the best program, rates, etc.
Now, let's assume that the government comes around and offers as good a plan (or better) than what my employees have now - and it will cost us less (a 7% payroll tax whereas we are paying 9 - 10% of payroll now). Will we cancel the plan we have have for our employees now and "suggest" they enroll in the government plan? You Betcha!
Therefore, HOW CAN THE DEMOCRATS AND OBAMA CONTINUE TO SAY THAT "IF YOU HAVE A PLAN NOW, YOU CAN KEEP IT?" They don't control that decision, the EMPLOYER does! And there is nothing in the bills that says employers can't change or cancel their health insurance - other than if they don't offer it, they have to pay a "tax".
THAT, my friends, is the type of logical discussion we should be having about heath care and insurance. But of course we are not and many people probably are unaware of most of what I rambled about above... as a businessman, I feel so hated and unappreciated under Obama and Congress. Maybe I should just pull up shop and move everything to Mexico. Hmmm.. that's an idea..

Testing to see if the lock has been changed.

Not to completely disagree with you Theocritus, because you are right for the most part, but my interpretation of the language of the bill is this (I am going from memory of reading it 2 weeks ago here):
Whatever insurance you are currently on, you are allowed to stay on it for the transition period (I believe 4 or 5 years). After that time, you are allowed to stay on your insurance, however, you will pay a penalty for not opting into the public option or a government approved plan. A government approved plan is a private plan that conforms to specific guidelines laid out by the government. The penalty will essentially be that which it would have cost you to be a part of the system, which I guess the government floats if you do the public option and you float if on a government approved private plan. If anything changes on your nongovernment approved plan, then you automatically default out of your option to maintain a nongovernment approved insurance plan, and must either choose the public option or a government approved private insurance option.
So, the gist of this plan is: Obama is right, you don't have to get on the public option, and you can maintain private insurance if you choose. However, he forgot to mention that in order to keep that which you currently have after the transition period, its going to cost you some serious cash. But, don't worry! You can still have private insurance. However, it has to conform to a specific set of government guidelines. Oh yeah, and the government is in competition with the private companies in this pool. They are essentially playing the game and play referee at the same time. You decide if that is fair or not. Finally, notice how there are these pools that you have to choose your insurance from in the private option. These could also be labeled cooperatives. So, what they will do is relabel everything as a coop and say that there is no public option, even though it still walks and quacks like the same duck as before. In essence, no matter what you do, regardless of public or private option, you will be on the government insurance plan, because it is all still government managed care.
Bottom line: it's a crock of sh!t.

Sorry if I posted here - I thought what I had to say was important. It won't happen again.

GayinAustin--I'm confused. Didn't mean to get on your case. I had tried to comment but was told that the comment was being held for moderation and that was what I was testing.
By all means comment and continue to do so. I welcome facts.

I believe that as it is currently written any change in your plan forces you into the governmental one, including a difference in co-pay.
I heard on the radio yesterday that many administrative costs will be off budget, just as in Medicare. The taxpayers will pay them, of course, but the plans look much more successful than they are. This is like starting your own business and having the government pay for most of the office workers, and then bragging about how good your service is and what a good value it it.
Of course this sleight-of-hand is necessary if anyone can believe that government-run anything is successful.
