Our sort-of commander in chief

As the world knows, Nidal Hasan murdered at least twelve people in Fort Hood, Texas. Dr. Val Finnell was his classmate at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Both attended a master's in public health program last year and the year before. They both took a class in environmental health and part of the classwork was a final presentation; there were expected papers such as dry-cleaning chemicals and mold in homes, but Finnell says Hasan's topic was whether the war against terror was "a war against Islam."
According to Finnell, Hasan told classmates he was "a Muslim first and an American second." Well, I'm a Texan first and an American second but that doesn't mean that I want to shoot Americans. Evidently Hasan's presentation tried to justify suicide bombing--a bootless task--and Hasan believed that the war on terror was indeed a war on Islam. Well, if Islam is bringing the terror to us by murdering innocent people, I'd say there is nothing wrong with that. What are we supposed to do? Fall on our stomachs and convert? Oh yeah. That's exactly what we're supposed to do. No thanks, Hasan. I have no desire to mutilate women. Or have a wall fall on me.
Multiculturalism has spread its cancerous roots into the very fabric of America; according to Finnell, several students were worried about the anti-American vitriol spewed forth by Hasan, but they were afraid to file a formal complaint lest they be considered bigoted. And so this man continued, unchallenged, until he went postal, primed by radical Islam, and murdered at least a dozen people. When he ought to have been frog-marched off the base quite a while ago.
President and Mrs. Bush traveled to Fort Hood and spent a quiet two hours there, visiting with people, and they did not want any press coverage from it. They departed quietly, with the style and class that I so sorely miss. (I recall seeing W.'s parents being interviewed in the middle 90s and missing their class compared to the Clintons' crass.)
President Obama, on the other hand, took himself to Camp David to rest from the travails of the House's passage, by a squeaker, of its version of socialized medicine. President Obama is exhausted after legislative action, and cannot find it in himself to do anything about the biggest terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11. W. was excoriated by his not immediately flying to New Orleans after Katrina. Do you think that the legacy media will hold Obama to the same standard? Don't hold your breath.
But this is no shock; we've known the Obama's essential character for some while. When candidate Obama was in Berlin he took himself to a night club instead of visiting wounded soldiers in an American military hospital.
What a low-class man in a high-class office. But then the solipsistic are always, in the end, low-class.

I heard it reported that the bodies of these soldiers were flown to Dover AFB, since that is where the military has centeralized the first steps in the final journey home for all servicemembers.
If so, the Commander and Chief didn't have to make a trip much longer than the flight to Camp David.

I make no excuses for Hasan's deplorable actions. Hasan acted with malice, a disregard for common man and a disregard for his own religion. However, I have to take you to task on several points:
1. Obama not being on the ground in Fort Hood in no way compares to Bush's no-show for Katrina. Granted, Bush had an important birthday party to attend in Arizona that day (true fact), but had he shown up in New Orleans/Mississippi two days earlier, he could've gotten aid moving faster (or AT ALL) and SAVED lives.
I'm not guessing here; I've lived in Louisiana. I've talked to the people. Bush slow-rolling the people of the Pelican State COST LIVES. Make no mistake about, or excuse for, it. Obama could have done nothing at Fort Hood, except to extend his sympathies, which he did with an immediate televised address as events still were unfolding Thursday. He has since spoken on it several times publicly, has asked the citizenry to extend their support and was in Fort Hood today to personally offer his support.
2. Declaring war on the Muslim faith is idea born out of complete ignorance of global relations, and a total lack of compassion for our common man. Hasan's attacks were those of one Muslim, not all Muslims. The DoD estimated last year that there were 3,400 Muslims serving active duty in our military, though they say the number may be much higher, as some Muslims may choose not to report their religion, for fear of persecution (or just not wanting their privacy violated). To declare war on the Muslim faith is to declare war on ourselves. It is to declare war on millions of innocents. it is to declare war on our allies.
Furthermore, one attack in 3,400 does not make a trend. We didn't declare a war on ALL collegiate English majors following the Virginia Tech massacre because we understood that the shooter's acts were those of an extremely misguided, deeply flawed human being. The same with Hasan.
3. "God before country" is the mantra of many Americans, and I'd say MOST Americans of faith, including (and especially) many Christians. I'll add that it's my mantra. But because a person feels that way, doesn't give them the right to gun down another human being.
The truth is, Hasan was a nut that snapped. His religion played an ancillary role, but it wasn't the reason why he murdered those people. Ours is a voluntary military. When Hasan ELECTED to join the military, he knew it was a possibility that he would have to fight other Muslims (the excuse some media have given that he joined the military BEFORE 9/11 falls flat; the US has been engaged militarily and aggressively diplomatically in the region for decades).
Obama has done all that can be asked for him in the situation. That he didn't put the rest of his duties on hold for this murderer is understandable. You're taking swipes at him, because you oppose him politically. But these murders are not something that should be politicized, and shame on you for doing so.
This nation's tragedies used to bring us closer together; now they only provide the polarized a chance to spew their hatred.

Oh please JB, the local and state authorities of LA were about as incompetent as a Chinese fire drill. I never saw in my life such a bunch of helpless idiots. Will there ever be a time when you quit blaming Bush? Oh, didn't think so.
The truth is Hasan killed precisely because he was a muzzy.
These terroristic murders are precisely being politicized by hussein obama, the army and the main stream media. He is now the official "victim".

Bush was assured that the local authorities in Louisiana could handle it--Nagin in particular said he was fine, as his cops looted Cadillac dealerships. And there is after all FEMA, which was supposed to do things. Bush in retrospect ought to have flown in and made noises because of the political consequences but that's all.
As far as Hasan being one Muslim that snapped. I ask you: when will you stop saying that this atrocity or that atrocity committed by Muslims is isolated? This means that there are moderate Muslims, right? It follows.
Where? Name them. On 9/11 Palestinian children were dancing with joy.
I defy you to name moderate Muslims.
As far as spewing hatred, if I spat foam at a picture of Obama 24/7 I could not improve on Michael Moore, the poster boy for leftist agitprop, who complained that Osama bin Ladin targeted people in the red states instead of the blue ones.
Read the Daily Kos, and see who's doing the hating. Ever heard of Keith Olbermann? Now there's the left's model for hatred. He could make the loathsome Jerry Falwell blench.
I despise (not hate) Obama, but I have never wished him dead, much less people that I don't know that I don't agree with politically.
As did Michael Moore.

What an excellent example of a block and right-jab to potential hijackers and those who are needy for attention. Good work Theo !

Thanks, Otto.
And more hatred from the left. This from the odious Michael Moore:
I would like to apologize for referring to George W. Bush as a deserter. What I meant to say is that George W. Bush is a deserter, an election thief, a drunk driver, a WMD liar, and a functional illiterate. And he poops his pants.
How's that for hate? How's that for class?
And bear in mind when Moore lets fly with this sort of stuff, he still sits on the dais with other big-wig progressives. Obviously they don't object.
Trent Lott on the other hand at the final birthday party for the doddering Strom Thurmond remarked that Strom had run for president and perhaps ought to have been elected. A nice encomium to a very old man. Thurmond had been in the Klan but repented, and publicly supported civil rights. Lott was drummed out Senate Leadership for this.
While Michael Moore still spews hatred.

You really expect the commander in chief to be there for the soldiers when health care needs to be passed? Your kidding, right?
Oh wait, he obviously forgot about the photo op like when the dead arrived from Afghanistan and he was right there ready to salute. Maybe that is his plan. Make the dead come to him.
And yes, there is a huge double standard.
