A spot of bother in Tucson; I can say that perhaps the best hospital I've been in is St. Joseph's in Tucson, and when I walked by the crucifix in the room I wasn't struck by lightning either. A very kind group of people, and competent too. I'll live to bitch another day.

Rasmussen reports that Obama's strongly approve, strongly disapprove is 14% to his disfavor.

75% of Republicans think that the Republicans in Congress are too liberal. I've been calling them all RINOs for years. Put one of these people in power and the drug goes to his head. It's worst than meth. He decides that he has a unique perspective on the world and will use it to make beneficial changes, as defined by him. And even if he entered with a pledge to leave after x terms, he never remembers that pledge. "I have too much experience for my district to throw away." In reality he's succumbed to the perks and the flattery and the sheer orgiastic joy of spending other people's money and telling them what to do.

If I could wave a hand and change one thing about the world, it would be term limits for everyone in government. Every single one. Contract out all clerical and janitorial and other duties; let everyone know that in say 12 years he has to earn a living in the real world and so he'd better be nice to real people. The view of reality on the horizon clarifies the mind.

This does not apply to the military. Except to the head soldier, who mooed after the Ft. Hood massacre that if diversity were lost it would be a greater tragedy. That jerk ought to have been cashiered as a private.

Most Democrats think that the Democrats in Congress represent them well. This indicates to me that many Democrats are reflexively Democrat instead of paying attention to what the Democrats in Congress are doing. Surely America is not as far left as this lot in Congress, at least not outside a few spots of noted lunacy, such as San Francisco and New York.

Most delicious of all though is that 45% of people think that a random group of people from the telephone book would do a better job than Congress. This reminds me of Bill Buckley's famous statement that he'd rather be governed by the first 200 names in the phone book than the Harvard faculty.

And as always, self-proclaimed Democrats still outnumber Republicans and Independents, but in the generic ballot Republicans are ahead 9%.

Unlike some people I do not necessarily think that the November election will be a tectonic event. There is still a lot of time for the Republicans to screw things up.

I completely agree with your last paragraph. I've been very concerned that this far ahead of the next election, people are so incensed at the Demonrats. There's entirely too much time for the sheep to forget, and that seems to be the civilian population's favorite pastime. It seems that they're always in a rush to let time knock the sharp edges off so they can go back to their regular activity, to wit, somnolence. There are a great number of people excited about Debra Medina right now, but by their own admission, they've never participated in these things before, and I suspect that their political activist days are severely numbered. I only hope I'm as wrong as I usually am in predicting the future.

Great to have you back, Theo! I hope your “spot of bother” in Tucson was a small spot and not too much of a bother.
This will be an interesting year. Everything seems to point to a big year for Republicans (and Conservatives particularly), but it is just these situations that Republican Party Leaders tend to screw up magnificently.
In 2008, with small Democrat majorities in both houses, very low approval numbers for Congress and polls showing most people believed the country was going in the wrong direction, the country took decisive action and put even MORE Democrats in Congress! Why? In my opinion, it was because the man in the White House (Bush) was a Republican. When things are not going well for the country, people tend to blame the current POTUS and his party. This year, with big Democrat majorities in both houses and a Democrat POTUS, it should be a huge year for Republicans.
However, with the media (or as my wife calls them, “The Obedia”) in the pocket of Obama and the Dems there will be a strong wave of resistance against the Republicans. I’m afraid our party, with its present leadership will act like McCain in 2008 and try to look “nice” and run people who want to “reach across the aisle” and all that other B.S. We need strong, vocal Conservatives. We need people who can “stand athwart history yelling “Stop!” (as W.F. Buckley put it)
Mr. Buckley also wrote, “…Middle of the Road, is politically, intellectually, and morally repugnant. We shall recommend policies for the simple reason that we consider them right (rather than “non-controversial”); and we consider them right because they are based on principles we deem right (rather than on popularity polls)...” I believe we must do the things that even our own experts say is wrong. In this way, we shall know we are right.
Sorry to be so long-winded.

Never underestimate the Republicans' ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

One of the ways this manifests itself is to accept and promote useless and detrimental causes like "climate change" and more money for "education."chrnef
