And another one
One of the good things in this world is that I'm not being paid to write on this blog, because I'd have been sacked some while ago. But the state of my thinking is either inchoate, spluttering rage at Washington, numbness, or that cheerful feeling one gets, at least that is what I read, before a disaster.
This memory is 35 years old, so please correct.
I've traveled some in California and thought the people quite nice and I enjoyed it. Still, you can't judge a book by its cover. Greece's profligacy, paid for in large measure, again, by us, who have no interest in Greece, has caused the world financial system to tremble, and Greece is a small country. California, on the other hand, is a very large economy and it may well be in a condition nearly as bad as that of Greece.
So it's time to have some fun at their expense.
California vs. Texas
Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks dog.
California:
#1. Governor starts to intervene, reflects upon the movie "Bambi" and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is only doing what is natural.
#2. He calls animal control. Animal control captures coyote and spends $200 testing it for diseases and $500 upon relocating it.
#3. He calls veterinarian. Vet collects dead dog and spends $200 testing it for diseases.
#4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting bite wound bandaged.
#5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife services conduct a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear of dangerous animals.
#6. Governor spends $50,000 of state funds implementing a "coyote awareness" program for residents of the area.
#7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better handle rabies and how to possibly eradicate the disease.
#8. Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack and for letting the Governor intervene.
#9. Cost: $75,000 to train new security agent.
#10. PETA protests the coyote relocation and files suit against the state.
Texas:
#1. Governor shoots coyote and keeps jogging. Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge. Buzzards eat dead coyote.

My dear Theo, you have again masterfully poked fun at our defective Governor. However, I have a very minor quibble in that the pistol in question was not in fact a .45, but a very compact Ruger .380 with a laser sight. Until very recently, Gov. Perry would have paid substantially more than 50 cents for a round of said ammunition, even if it was reloaded. I've seen those things go for $2 a round when you could find them at all. Fortunately, the supply has eased up a lot lately, for reasons I cannot fathom. The services don't use .380, but they may be using the same bullets loaded as 9mm in larger cases in huge numbers. Maybe we could petition The One for assistance as an economic stimulus. Or not.
Since that is the firearm I personally carry most of the time, I was very gratified and impressed with the Governor's sensible choice in a compact, concealed carry pistol. Other than that and his stand on the death penalty, I find little to recommend him. I would very much prefer that he spend a lot less time on his international ambitions and more on the interests of Texas and our borders.

I can't speak for either governor being from Colorado. Our esteemed leader would however try to charge the coyote some sort of fee or tax just for being there in the first place.
As for the pistol,I have to go with the .45 auto since a .380 or 9mm will barely penetrate tissue paper and a coyote is a tough animal.

Randall , I carried a 1911 Colt .45 ,
years before it was legal here in Texas and never had to use it . .380's and 9 mm can carry a LOT of ammo but at the age of my wife and I ..Where are we going to go where we get into a shootout ?
If something bad comes down it happens fast . Thats why the wife and I prefer the Tarus .357 loaded with .38's . super short barrel , low level light ammo , 5 shot but chamber empty .
I now find it easier to handle a double action revolver than an automatic...besides if my bride and I can't take the bad guy down in eight shots we got what we deserved .
It feels SO manly to talk about guns..especially on Memorial Day.
God Bless our Fallen .
Truely .
Truely .

Good points Otto....and it is always fun to talk guns, whatever the holiday. This one is special however.......vitually all of us are touched in one way or another by our military. God bless all of them from the past and into the future!! Have a good everyone!!

Yeah , maybe so..but I had to cough up some part of the fifty cents !If Perry wants to save the state some money he should be using re-loads ! I have to .
