Why I use Bing instead of Google: June 6th Version

bing-v-google-on-dday.jpg

Check out their respective pages on June 6. Bing's home page (above) shows an aerial photograph of the American Cemetery located in Normandy.

Google? Nothing. Move along. Nothing to see here. Nothing of note ever happened on June 6th.

Actually this is just one of the reasons. The main reason is that I just don't trust Google. Google makes money for one reason and one reason only: They know a bunch of stuff about you and the more they know the more they get paid. If you could break the old Stasi into two separate operating entities, one that ran the informants and the other that did the interrogations and disappearances, Google could run the former.

But not the latter....because their corporate motto is "Don't be evil", you see.

UPDATE: Welcome MichelleMalkin.com and HotAir.com readers!

And now an Instalanche!

But...but...what's the porn like on Bing???

Bill and Melinda Gates naked?

I just looked at the bing directions and it is a lot beter than google maps.

I'm ashamed to admit I didn't recognize the cemetery. Not anymore, though. Well done, BING. Thank you, Jessica's Well.

As reluctant as I am to support Micro$oft, bing does look better than google. What other search engines are there that would be preferable?

Don't be evil. Don't use Googlag.

Use Ask.com

Google also "dissed" Veteran's Day last year. I quit using Google that day.

At least with Bing, each day has a great photo and links where you will actually learn something.

We stopped using google when they celebrated esperanto.

Bill and Melinda Gates are certainly lefties - but they aren't obnoxious about it and their foundations immunization program is worthy.

I was an October '99 user of Google... Lived by it until Bing finally definitively bested it...

They have been blocking and misdirecting traffic based on politics for years... Google Bombing is used even by Google staff to give bad info out... They hid under a 'Beta' tag in Gmail for the better part of a decade,...because you can get away with a lot more (I'm a twenty-year software dev... I learned some of the tricks along-the-way)...

Al Gore sat on the board... which should tell you something.. and the whole thing was underwritten by Silicon Valley billionaires from it's founding (Sun)...

Sorry...I'm ranting.. my point is there are uncountable ways in which Google has proven it's got an agenda, and is unafraid of screwing you over to get to it...

MS is many things that may seem unsavory, but they are also closely monitored... and frankly, probably the most honest of the big IT's out there after the lawsuits... Not because they want to be, but because they are everyone's favorite target...

Also, be sure to change the privacy settings if are gonna surf porn... It's blocked by default...easy to fix...You'll be glad you did...if that's your bag... Just FYI! =D

Oh and install the Bing toolbar and / or set it as your default, and you'll forget Google ever even existed...

and you'll find a lot of sites that you mysteriously weren't finding before in Google...

I use Google more out of habit than anything else.
You're D-day Bing - Google comparison was meaningful to me. I happen to have toured the D-day beaches 2 years ago. For the D-day comparison alone and because of you, I'll give Bing another look.

Cheers.

I could not agree more Jessica. I was disgusted with the token acknowledgement they put up on Memorial Day, but this is the last straw. Ever since Bing came out I have not (nor will I ever) use Google again. I am retired US Army Infantry with 4 combat tours under my belt. I have two Purple Hearts and have seen far too many soldiers killed or wounded. This is something I take VERY SERIOUSLY. Google epitomizes the San Fransickness anti-American and anti-military philosophies that makes that modern day Sodom and Gemorra a stain on this entire country.

I hadn't really thought about this much. But I have been rather piqued with the g ever since they pretended not to know anything about the CRU fraud (Climategate) This one hits very close to home though. Bye bye g. And thanks for all the fish.

Cheers Jessica.

Thats great but I checked early this morning and there wasn't anything like this up....it was some coral heads shot

Memorial Day was the same for google - no mention at all.

There is a search engine that keeps your data private. I heard about it on Mancow's radio show but haven't been able to find anything on it. I've tried bing and am not impressed. I use Yahoo! mostly but I hear they backdoor google anyway so I don't know whether or not I'm still supporting those two little effete nazis or not.

THANK YOU for posting this! I really like your blog...

You should all try goodsearch.com and donate a penny per search to your favorite charity!!!

If I remember correctly I saw a week long celebration on Google for the anniversary of Sesame Street--but nothing on 9-11. That should have been the last straw, but habits die hard--it's dead now though--bing is my default from now on...

gregd01...i think you mean scroogle.org...note the .org

Thanks for this...I just changed my search engine.

I've never used Google more than 10 times, and only because of the cache feature. I have refused to use it for years because of their leftist slant, and have known of their little games they play in recognizing some lefty cause, but refusing to recognize anything having to do with why America is great.

Google? Gmail? Any other Google-related application? No way in hell will I support something that craps all over my and my fellow veterans service.

Really? Wow. Internet people are silly.

I left Google because of its strong political bias. I now use Bing, which gives me excellent Search results with a much cleaner format. I hope Google dies.

Haha. I had no idea as I didn't pay attention to it when I was online. I was just using Google out of habit. Now, I will do a Google search for Bing and then switch. Sounds like the way to do it.

I've used ixquick.com several times with pretty good results. they claim not to store personal info or ip addresses. anyone else use this service?

I don't know. Running to microsoft because you don't like the corporate practices of Google seems a little... strange. i would love a third option.

I'd use Bing more too, but their search results just aren't as good.

It's not as if any of the major search engine companies are really chock full of Conservatives... One should make use of all of them when doing serious research...

WalMart, who now stocks mostly "Made in China" products used to tout "Made in USA"...

I've been using Bing for months now. I can't remember exactly which holiday caused me to change but it was similar circumstances. And on non-holidays, I either enjoy the beautiful pictures or I learn something new, or both.

I don't rely exclusively on any one search engine -- although I still find Google more useful than Bing.

Dogpile searches Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask, and is a good alternative.

Very true. very true. Google is the Leviathan. One thing to consider, though, is that they are driven by a need to be "international" and thus can't tick off entities that might object to America being the liberator of thousands of European... ah, forget it. They just suck.

i don't trust google for many reasons, includig their news source policies, their misdirection of traffic, their non-transparency of directing you to sites they own, and now mostly because of their relationship with the government -- they are one of the "G" spokes on the wheel -- General Motors, General Electric, Goldman Sachs and ... Google. I wonder when folks are going to start to see Apple as more ideological than they really should be. If they made their "1984" commercial today, you might well see Jobs on the screen.

Microsoft is the original evil empire. I can just hear Ballmer's maniacal laugh every time someone switches from Google to Bing just because of the politics displayed on the front page.

I like Bing for it's beautiful photographs and unobtrusive topics of popular inerest at the bottom. The image remins me of the National Geographic I grew up with.(not the whiny screed it has become).

Yeah, google does manage to blank out conservative sites and issues now and then.

Also, as no search engine having majority conservatives... that’s suspect right there as they're over represented in IT (i.e., libertarians and conservatives...).

I work in san fran and even here, there are plenty of them (although not as many as outside this area). So, to have very few, you'd have to work at it....

Google Maps and Google Earth are pathetic. The images for my very populated part of Florida are from pre-2004 hurricane season. I like Yahoo Maps. They have a really cool ability to drag and drop an intermediate destination into a route. Very cool. Satellite view is pretty much up to date.

Sometimes less is more. Sure Bing is more prettyful than Google but what's the real virtue in a search provider? Speed and accuracy. So what's the load time difference between the two? Also, I'm curious to know how much time elapsed between pressing 'enter' and getting results for each.

I became disgusted with Google when they kept deleting "Climategate" as a suggested search term. I went to Bing, and lo and behold, 12 hrs later Bing had deleted the term.

Don't trust any of them. Yahoo seems to be less politicized, but it is not as capable. However, it appears that gaming google has become so sophisticated that it is becoming useless to search on anything that anybody anywhere ever thought they might make a dime off of on the web.

I especially like when searching for a local business, for instance a dealer in outboard motors, the first page is full of links of aggregators like boats usa, or boats/yourtown,yourstate that are national, and don't know anything about the local market.

Google Local used to be my favorite tool, but it is getting more and more of a PIA to use effectively.

I just switched my search engine in FireFox from google to bing.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.

Bwah!

Google wasted the time of millions of people by paying tribute to the "birthday" of Pac Man; nothing for the heroes of D-Day.

And people wonder why Veterans feel isolated from our society and choose to live overseas in greater and greater numbers as expatriates.

I use Google to perform web searches. It does that well. I will continue to use it.

Google is just taking a cue from B. Husain Obama. He was partying hard last night a special music show at Ford's Theater. No mention from The One about D Day. Not hip enough for him, I guess.

I have my homepage set to Dogpile.com Been like that for years. And yes, they make nice references to all the holidays and special events.

I've refused to use Google for a long time for similar reasons - the 2 dirtbags who run this company are leftists who hate America. Screw them. It annoys the hell out of me that even conservative outlets use the companion YouTube, also owned by Google - who take down videos submitted by patriots while leaving Muslim hate videos alone.

BOYCOTT GOOGLE & YOUTUBE!

Use Bing, Dogpile, Ask, etc.

I use Google . How does that saying go..keep your enemys close and sumpthin', sumpthin', sumpthin'...

Nice 'lanche, Nat! Great post, too. Gracias!!

If you ever miss a picture, you can click the little navigation buttons at the bottom of the current picture to see what you missed, up to about a week back.

Bing is definitely more pro-American than Google and should be the search engine of choice for any right-wingers out there.

Hey thanks for passing that along. I use Google at home and Bing at work. I will be switching to only Ask.com from now on.

But..but..after 46 comments nobody has told me which engine has the best porn ??? And don't say nobody hasn't checked it out !

Click on the down arrow in the search box in the upper right-hand corner of your Firefox browser (you ARE using Firefox, aren't you?).

Click on Manage Search Engines.

I just chose Ixquick HTTPS, and it's working just fine for me.

wow. thanks for the post. officially ditching google for bing.

I am an "old" Navy radioman. Anything like what Bing has done is great, and a nice way of honoring the "longest day" 6 June 1944.

I am a boomer, but some of us believe that these rememberances should never be forgotten - hopefully as long as we're still around - thanks Jessica! :-)

I will never use Bing,

You wanna know why?.... When did you ever see Google advertise before it became famous?

NEVER... Google was spread around by word of mouth.. a better search then yahoo.

Bing wtf is that?

Oh BINGO?... Bing is a stupid name for a serach engine..

BING IT?... Google it.. Which sounds better.

And there ads are annoying.. Octopus, No way FAKE FAKE! .. STFU.

I wouldn't use Bing if somebody paid me to do it ( and Bing does or has had promotions like that). The reason being is that I already pay the Microsoft tax every time I buy a new computer. That should be enough. Google as a company might not be the best in the world, but most of their services are exactly what I need + free, and their search engine is unrivaled by any other that exists out there in terms of exactness and speed.

Microsoft's Bing is just a bad clone of Google and its features with a pretty picture pasted on it. Some people care about the picture more than about having exact search results. Those people should cling to Bing. I use Google.

It seems like you have a major misconception of Google. They don't make money by knowing "a bunch of stuff about you and the more they know the more they get paid" whatsoever. Not a penny.

Google makes 99% of their revenue through their AdWords program. It basically allows you to advertise on Google and its partner networks. That's means Google is an advertising company that uses its profits to fund the development of FREE (and damn good) software including productivity, social networks, operating systems, etc.

Search, YouTube, Gmail, Docs, Android, Chrome, Google+, News, Earth, TV, Picasa, Picnik, Blogger, Latitude, Calendar, Reader, Wallet, Music, Voice are all FREE products from Google. They even have a program for web developers to earn money by placing ads on their sites through another program called AdSense.

Still think Google is as bad?

i have never seen so many hipsters on one site.

I opine that to get the credit loans from creditors you ought to present a great motivation. However, one time I've got a secured loan, because I wanted to buy a building.

For those still wondering whether it is possible to gain personal information in connection unknown mobile calls, the answer lies in consulting a reliable reverse cell phone lookup directory.
