The End of My Start
I started my blogging career as a contributor to one of the early conservative blogs that wound up being an original Pajamas Media site (it isn't anymore). I was a pretty minor contributor and the blog didn't lend itself to local issues or personal blogging (which I never really got into). So, I decided to buy my own domain and write a local/personal blog.
As a contributor all I had to do was opine. Running my own domain and local/personal blog required me to make MoveableType play nice and write every couple of days! Regardless of my interest in the news of the day.
Needless to say, running my own personal blog wasn't for me, so I started commenting on a certain local blog and expounding on certain comments on my own blog when I thought the reply needed more background.
Then on August 11, 2006, I was asked to join the contributors of said local blog, and it truly was the beginning of the end of my personal blog. Today it is official. I've totally wiped the site, and in a couple of months when the domain and hosting contracts are up I will not renew.
Jessica's Well has been my home for over 4 years, I don't need another.

Shep, you make it sound like I'm leaving. (I'm not)
Truth is I hadn't posted on my personal blog since that election night 2008.
It's Obama's fault.

I have, with my Mac accounts, the ability to host, for free, two websites. Simple ones, not requiring HTML, which I do not have time to learn.
And who has time?
I'm glad for JW too. When I first started I'd sit and think and write for an hour or two and then post. Now it's a means of taking a coffee break, as my regurgitations of others' work shows.
But still, it's a good deal of fun.
Ospurt, glad you're not leaving the Well.

Sorry...had just started (late) the first cup of coffee this morning.
Rewrite: I am very pleased you have been among the Wellheads all this time and are continuing to contribute prolifically. You continue to make a significant impact here and we are proud to have you.
Better?
That election night was a turning point for a lot of us. Neither Opus nor I have been out of the house with our headbags since.
BTW: Isn't damned neat everything Obama's fault now? Witness Theo's latest.

Glad you are not giving up posting on the Well....you are one of the truly informed people on local spending by local goverments, and your information is always dependable.
Hooray for all Wellheads....paper-bagged or not!

Being that I live across on the other side of the Nation, East Texas, I have thoroughly enjoyed your insights and wit on the Well since I located this island of common sense almost two years ago.
The Well is one of the few sites that I am able to access and unwind a bit here at work under the prying eyes of Websense that my company utilizes. I don't take many breaks including lunch, so it is nice to peer through the Pineywoods and catch some homecooking back on the Llano Estacado.
Despite being removed from Midland since 1981, it is always refreshing to hear the wind whistling through the mesquites. For me that is beautiful music to my ears.

Personally , I think it has a LOT to do with your paper bag fetish .
I worry that you may have started sleeping in it and the crinkle/crunch sounds may keep you or your esposa awake at night . It also bothers me somewhat that you have also introduced others at the Well to your practice.
Be that as it may , I'm sorry for the loss of your blog but glad as hell you have decided to remain here !
OH ! To get rid of the crinkle/crunch sound , my wife made me a nifty bag made of a burlap flour sack which makes no sound whatsoever! Kinda itchy though .

I'm sorry for the demise of the blog of your and my favorite penguin. But I am very pleased you have been among the Wellheads all this time. You have made a significant impact here.
A major highlight reamains election night '08 being interviewed by Jimmy the P. ...with our our beak-nosed friend from Bloom County. Good memories!
